Sustainable influencers that inspired me this year.

Dec 20, 2017 | 1 comment

After writing that post about how to avoid being negatively influenced on social media (here), I thought it was only right to share some inspiration on who to follow if you want a more sustainable lifestyle. This year I’ve stumbled upon so many cool influencers, writers an entrepreneurs who are all trying to change our environment for the better. Some of them I just follow, other I’ve been in contact with and some I really want to meet up with in 2018. They deserve a shoutout and some respect! Maybe you would like to follow some of them yourself in the new year? They all have something different to offer, even though some of them are kind of working within the same field.

Rocket Science

I’ve been following Anita for a few months. I follow her on Instagram, where she shares lot of easy-going tips for the regular consumer, in order to switch to the zero waste lifestyle and bring down your own production of excess waste. Anita buys most of her clothes secondhand, and she got a great eye for finding the most awesome pieces. She runs a series called “create not consume” on her Instagram, where she’s inspiring us to make our own presents, where and how to buy package-free and more. She lives in the US (San Francisco) so the bulk store options are generally better than in Denmark, where it’s almost considered a sort of hipster concept that’s only available in larger cities. I do have a farmers market near me, but it’s only on tuesdays in the middle of the day. While I’m at work! She’s not afraid to guide you in other directions though, and recently she encouraged me to check out if we have any online concepts in Denmark that delivers package free groceries.

Hun kører bl.a. serien “Create not consume”, hvor hun deler tips til bl.a. gaveidéer, emballage-fri indkøb mv.

My green closet

Verena Erin has the blog and Youtube channel My Green Closet, and she primarily makes content about sustainable fashion. We don’t have the same style, but that doesn’t matter one bit, because I can use all the tips she shares and transfer them to my own life. Verena is super informative and a clever woman, and her videos are always sharp and two-the-point. Recently, she has also started sharing more content with inspiration to produce less waste at home, so she has also become part of the zero-waste movement.

Gitte Mary

I’ve been following the Danish Gitte Marie for some time both on her blog, Youtube channel and on Instagram. She’s probably one of the pioneers on the subject in Denmark, and she’s got a great amount of subscribers on Youtube. Her content is in english. Again, this is another place I’ve enjoyed getting inspiration for a more sustainable lifestyle, and how to get started little by little.

Miild blog

(The blog is Danish only) I’ve been rambling on about the brand Miild for some time now, and the girls behind the brand have a pretty inspiring blog too. they write about makeup, ecology and allergies.

Bea Johnson

I follow Bea on Instagram after reading her book “Zero Watse Home”. She’s probably the front figure of the zero waste movement, and it was her book that made me reconsider my shopping habits, and all the things we just throw out each year. She made me consider the amount of pressure we put our environment under, just to send a whole lot of it to the landfill in the end. It’s crazy! Anyway, I really recommend both her book and Instagram profile.

Trash is for tossers

This is anther zero waste blogger and entrepeneur: Lauren Singer. I follow her on her blog, Youtube and on Instagram where she shares tips to make less waste in general. I also follow her shop concept Packagefree on Instagram, just to get more inspiration on better and more clever shopping habits in order to reduce waste.

Marie Kondo

You’ve probably heard her name on my blog a few times, if you’ve been following me the past year. Marie Kondo is the woman behind The Konmari Method, which is a certain way of decluttering your home (and your life) so that you will be able to live more balanced and sustainable in the long run. I follow her on Instagram where she often shows before and after pics from other people’s decluttered homes. And then she just share some really great quotes about life in general.

Bedre Mode

(The blog is Danish only) A while back Johanne actually wrote a guest post for my blog, with 5 tips to get a more sustainable wardrobe (read that here). I follow her on Instagram and her blog, where she creates content about sustainable fashion. She recently started making capsule wardrobes herself and is having great succes with it. I think of Johanne as sort of an expert when it comes to sustainable materials, brands and politics, which I’d like to learn more about myself. Besides that she is the cofounder of the Danish magazine Sustain Yearly.

The minimalists

Maybe you guys remember THIS post, where I gave you a review and recommendation of the documentary “Minimalism”? Anyway, the two main characters from that documentary have an Instagram account where they share a lot of inspirational quotes about life and minimalism in general. They also have a podcastthat I’ve yet to listen to, but it’s definitely on my list for 2018. If you want inspiration of how to live a more meaningful life, this might be the thing for you!
