New natural deo fave (that ACTUALLY works)

A little sneak peek on some of my latest jewelry designs, launching in July 2020

Alright guys… I think we’re there! Let’s talk about something as intimate as sweat. Sweat, odor and stubborn yellow pit stains especially. We’re getting closely acquainted now, can you feel it? 😉

This has been a recurring topic on my platforms for a long time. I cover it in videos such as finding the perfect white tee, or this video where I have shared a handful of natural, zero-waste beauty swaps. I’ve tried SO many deodorants through time, everything from natural crystal deodorants to antiperspirants without aluminium, perfume or other things; and I’ve pretty much been let down each time. The crystal deodorant worked wonders in the beginning, but all of a sudden the odor won the battle. The conventional yet aluminium-free deodorant turned out to leave just as stubborn yellow stains as it’s aluminium-filled friends. And making your own deodorant with baking powder, coconut oil or what else is out there has just never really been for me, and not something I see myself doing continuously I have to admit. If that works for you I’m thrilled and you should just keep doing that – but personally I think I prefer to put my $ to a company who knows what they’re doing, especially if the product lives up to what it claims. I’m no scientist.

My list of requirements for a good deodorant has extended over the years, as I’ve become increasingly conscious about sustainability. It doesn’t have to be 100% scent-free, but as natural as possible, preferably (certified) organic and aluminium-free. Aluminium is quite a controversial ingredient in many conventional deodorants and antiperspirants, some claim it to be harmful (carcinogenic even), but according to this Danish site there’s not enough evidence to prove it at this point. Another valid point is that it is the chemical process that happens when aluminium meets sweat and fabric, that causes these stubborn yellow pit stains to appear through time. And personally I think that when the damage is done, it’s so hard to get rid of them unless you use something with strong chemicals. The garment ends up being ruined. So I’ve kept my hunt going for a truly effective yet natural deodorant that doesn’t leave any stubborn stains, but that also wont let me down in terms of smell. And believe me, I know what I’m talking about. 😉 I’m probably the sweatiest person I know, lol.

The deodorant which I’ve fallen in love with is from Aurelia. It’s a bit pricey compared to the often 3 bucks you pay for a conventional counterpart, but it’s valuable to mention that a little goes a long way with this one; and I also have to say I think it’s worth the money, if it means I wont keep ruining my white t-shirts with yellow stains.

The first few weeks I wasn’t convinced. I didn’t feel like it kept me free from odor effectively enough, but some theories claim that you have to give your body some time to adjust, if you go from having used a conventional antiperspirant for years to one that is more natural. So I tried washing my pits every morning before applying the deodorant for a while (I shower at night btw) because what causes the smell in the first place is bacteria, and I kept pushing through for a while; and now I’m so satisfied!

I’ve used it for over a month now and only just finished my first jar. So like I said, I think a little goes a long way. It is available in another, bigger size though so maybe I should go for that next time – I have just bought two new ones, one for me and one for Morten to try out as well. I got him the Botanical Citrus one, which is a little more mild in the scent. Mine is a bit more strong as it contains both lavender and peppermint, but they’re both lovely.

Anyway, the point is that I’ve experienced that the amount of yellow stains that will appear when I use my white tees 2-4 times is minimal – most of it is product leftover and not something which is caused by aluminium; and the best part is that the small stains that will appear after some times of wear are easily removed in the wash! I’ve experienced that there might be a little leftover even after washing my tees, so I have to say I’m a little bit unsure of how it’s going to develop through time. But the small, discreet stain this deo leaves is nothing compared to the conventional deodorants I’ve tried through time, and I’m hoping the old baking soda with water trick can help me out if it gets too visible. Anyway, so far I’m convinced but I guess time will truly tell! I’ll keep you updated, but I’m hoping my search ends here 😉 Until then, let me know if you are going to try out this deodorant too and how it works for you!

Update 16.07.20: I’ve washed my white tees quite a few times since writing this post now and I’ve experienced, that when I use a good stain remover (this eco-friendly one from Planet Pure) underneath the armpits of the t-shirt before washing, the excess deodorant disappears completely! So I’m very very satisfied!

Men begge dufter dejligt.

I’m new to your website, and I just have to say THANK YOU for spending the time to investigate sustainable products that are genuinely helpful. I can’t tell you how many shirts have been ruined for me because of the yellowing. I know that Aurelia became a partner with you and sponsored a video, but right now I’m trusting you enough to believe that you’d be endorsing this product even without the partnership. I only place ship-to-me orders every two months (my own sustainability thing), but it’s on the list for my next order.
