Make your white sneaks white again.

/ I love my white sneakers from & Other Stories. The style is just so clean and simple and they just fit everything in my wardrobe! I bought them a year ago and I have not cleaned them once. And they have been used a lot, so I think they last very well! Another thing I think is really nice is that they don’t really seem to wear out. The leather has not gotten all wrinkly around the tip, although the white color has started to peel a bit of some places, but only a little. Anyway, just before we went on holiday in California, I thought they needed to be shined up a bit so they were ready for our vacation.

Step 1

/ Make a bowl of water with clear soap – I just used a clear dish soap. Then I went over the shoes first with a cloth dipped in the water, and then I used a toothbrush to scrub the stitches and the rubber sole. It is important that you dont scrub too much on the leather itself, especially when it is white – the white color might start to peel off.

Step 2

/ After washing the shoes, I used some plain household alcohol on a cloth to get the last dirt and discoloration off the rubber sole.

Step 3

/ When my shoes were dry, I chose to give them a range of leather balsam, just to make the leather soft again. I bought mine in a Danish Horse equipment store, but I’m pretty sure you can buy it in any local bag shop or at your local cobblers.

Step 4

/ Now you can either choose to wash the old laces – maybe let them soak in a light chlorine solution first and then put them in the washing machine the next time you need to wash white clothes anyway. You can also buy a pair of new white laces. We had a couple in our shoe cabinet, so I put them in.

Step 5

/ If you choose to put new laces in as I did and they are too long, then you can cut them and burn the end so they dont tire. However, you can only do this if it is polyester laces because they melt into plastic when burned. Just dont hold them in the fire for more than a few seconds, as they will get black and that doesn’t look very nice 😉

Step 6

/ As a last thing, I chose to protect my nice clean shoes with this product. I also used it on my handbags, because a few days before we went on vacation they also got a round of cleaning and care. Then they will last better through rain and the dirt will come off easier.

Using toothpaste and toothbrush is also one way of cleaning leather shoes. It’s easier

FYI On step 6 I think the word impregnate is used incorrectly.

I did not see how Signe used the word impregnate as she must have deleted it from her post but you can surely use this word when talking about shoe care. 🙂 so i assume SIgne used it correctly and a non-native speaker tried to correct her but this lady herself did not know how to use the word impregnate ! Been a fan of your blog for over a year now, Signe! Love it! Keep up the good work 🙂
