From old jeans to denim skirt.

I’ve had proper denim skirt on my wishlist since last summer, even though it (as you guys know) isn’t what I tend to wear most in general; skirts and dresses. However, these days I seem to be more and more convinced that there are some dresses and skirts I actually do like. The denim skirt is, like my vintage leather skirt, a great compromise because it has a more edgy vibe to it and I can easily picture it integrated with the rest of my wardrobe. I’ve been browsing through Asos Marketplace which is my absolute favourite place to buy vintage Levi’s denim, but then it hit me how easy it is to make your own denim skirt from old jeans!

So without giving it any further thought I went through my storage of clothing, and found a pair of jeans that I bought on Asos several years ago. I had them in my autumn capsule last year, but haven’t been so keen on them actually so I thought they were a great candidate for a little upcycling-project. If I didn’t already have a pair of jeans I would have probably visited one of my local thrift stores to see if I could find a pair of jeans there. The important part is that they fit you in the waist and that they are in a cool wash that you like. I love this light blue wash, and I can’t wait to pair my new skirt with light cotton or linen shirts all summer! It’s coming with me on vacation in Italy and if we’re going to a outdoor concert it’s gonna look really cool with my black Acne Jensen boots too. You can get a little preview of all the looks I’m inspired by this coming summer right HERE.

I’m so happy about how my skirt turned out, and to me it looks exactly like something I bought in a shop! As consumers we have a tendency to become blind to all the opportunities we already have around us, because we are constantly bombarded and tempted to buy new things, and it’s just such a shame when a lot of those things we crave are already within reach in a more sustainable version. I think fixing up your wardrobe like this is a great way to relax, in fact I’m always good for a little DIY project. So if you have an old pair of jeans laying around that you don’t use anymore, I really hope my guide below can inspire you! I promise you, it’s SO easy to do. You don’t even need a sewing machine if you don’t have one, I believe you can even do this by hand or with fabric glue if everything else fails. Enjoy! <3
