/ As I often mention, having a sustainable wardrobe is not only caring about ecology and fairtrade in general. It is also investing in timeless products, and get rid of the “fast fashion” way of thinking. But if there is a place I would want to do better, it is actually to invest in more organic or fairtrade produced clothes. At home, most of the food we buy is organic. I have also begun to replace some of my conventional beauty products, with products that are less harmful, not only for myself but also for the environment. But when it comes to clothing, I am hopelessly behind – when it comes to ecology and fair trade, that is. Because I actually consider my wardrobe as fairly sustainable, in that it contains only products I’m happy to use, and because it contains so many timeless styles that with the proper care lasts season after season.

Many high street chains have begun to produce more organic clothing. H&M Conscious has been around for a long time, but both Zara and Mango now has begun to support the concept. If you look at these high street brands and the styles they make, then H&M is still my favorite. I think the products and designs from both Zara and Mango are a little out there sometimes, and I’d much rather put my energy into buying organic basics, because it’s stuff I use all the time, and thus also the things I usually replace more often. Besides that, it’s timeless products that fit everything I have in my wardrobe, and I wont get tired of. But I do like the idea that both Zara and Mango are probably just trying to reconcile trendy products with sustainability, to show that sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be basic and boring. So if you want to go out and pick up something new for your wardrobe that is a bit more trend-based, then I guess both Zara and Mango are good suggestions.

My favorite brand of all at the moment, is People Tree. Both because I think they make really nice basic products, but also because I think the price is fair. It is of course a bit more expensive than H&M, but in general, I think we consumers need to be brought up a little speaking of price; the clothes are not free. Both production and good quality garments that last season after season costs.

One last tip I want to give you is ASOS ‘Eco Edit. I didn’t even know they had one, and I wish it was more visible on their website. I myself am a HUGE fan of ASOS and their entire online universe, and I would love to be able to buy more sustainable products in there. Who knows – maybe it will be a bigger thing in the future. Anyway – to buy organic/fairtrade basics is a super good place to start, and therefore I have gathered my favorites at the moment for you here! I’m not going to replace all of my clothes with eco-friendly and fairtrade products all at once (that would be silly), but when I do have to replace some of my basics, I will definitely remember to check out the eco-friendly products and brands in the future.
