Our office is one of the rooms in our house, that we have decided not to renovate right now. We actually didn’t even paint the room, the only thing we’ve done is to clean the carpet. A little while back we rented a carpet cleaner and then we cleaned basically all our soft furnishings like carpets and our couches. I can highly recommend this by the way, especially if you have pets or small children! I was shocked at the amounts of dirt that was removed from these things, and especially our couch almost looks as good as new.

Something we’ve done to the office though is to declutter and buy a couple new furniture pieces. We’ve also optimised the setup a bit more, so now we are able to sit next to each other when we’re both working from home, and in general the atmosphere is just so much more lovely and cozy than it was before!

Some of you might remember that up until recently I rented an entrepreneur office down town. It’s definitely something I’d love to do again some time next year, but because they suddenly needed more space down there I decided to hand in the keys to my office and make room for someone else. Especially since I was going on maternity leave soon anyway and there has been periods through my pregnancy where I have been so tired that I didn’t even feel like using my office space anyway. I just needed to be close to my bed or the couch so I could take a nap when I needed it… 😉

So the fact that our home office is now sorted is a huge relief. Especially also before the baby arrives. Morten and I will be sharing most of the maternity leave between us, so we will both be home quite a lot – the beauty of my job is that I can basically work from anywhere, so I am beyond grateful that we will be able to be together even when I’m working (because I’m just going to be at home), and it’s nice to now have a cozy office to do work in. Our home office is right next to the nursery and there’s a door out to our terrace as well, where I’m sure our baby girl will be napping a lot of the time in her stroller. So it’s a perfect setup for a working-from-home mum, I think!

Især også her inden baby kommer.

We started decluttering and clearing out some of our old folders and different sort of admin stuff. Everything has a place and a purpose now either in a box, a drawer, a closet or in a folder. So it’s easier to find what you might be needing now (without having to dig it out behind 15 other little bits and bobs), and it’s also easy to put things back into place after using it. And when everything has a place and a purpose it’s easier to get rid of (or say no to) pointless things along the way as well, instead of letting it pile up. Konmari, you know 😉

We’re not sure when we’ll start actually renovating the office for real, maybe not before a couple years. We would love to get rid of the old wallpaper, install a new plain ceiling and put in wooden floors like in the rest of the house. None of us are super keen on the dark carpet the previous owners installed, and then we can always make the atmosphere more cozy with a smaller, decorative carpet in the middle of the room. But the furniture and the way we have set up everything now is defintely something we’re going to stick with! It works so well, it’s become so cozy and I love the atmosphere we’ve managed to create. It’s lovely to spend my working day there which is of course super important in terms of motivation and productivity.
