Autumn capsule 18 pt. 1: visual idea & planning

A look back at summer

As a conclusion I’ve been pretty pleased with my summer capsule this year, and the decision about going for a more neutral and monochromatic color palette turned out to be just right. It’s been great to “calm” things down like that during summer, and I’ve been using all items in my summer capsule a lot. Theres no doubt that it’s been amazing with all the sunny days we’v been having this summer. That sort of summer is very rare when you live in Scandinavia, and I have to admit (which I think many people in the cold North agrees with me on) it’s been a little much. The summer has not only been hot and dry; it’s been a heatwave and the many forest fires caused by this have just been awful, so it feels kind of pointless sitting here writing how I’ve had trouble navigating around in this years summer capsule, but that’s how it is. Not only did the heat make working all day almost unbearable and hard having to stay focused for so many hours when you’re not at all used to that heat (and don’t have any AC), but I’ve also found myself getting quikly bored with my wardrobe this season because my creativity just didn’t add up. I ended up reaching for the same few dresses all through the heatwave because I just couldn’t be bothered, and because I’m already more of a pants and boot-kinda-girl I’ve just not felt like the best version of myself this season. Even though this type of summer only happens every 5-10 years in Denmark (and in reality you should be thankful for it, not complain like I do), I’ve noted all these thoughts down in my little capsule wardrobe notebook. So next year I want to see if I can focus more on outfits that consist of two parts instead of having more dresses – so skirts, shorts and tops. Then I will be able to combine those in many different ways, and hopefully not get as quickly bored with my wardrobe as this year. Normally the weather changes a lot more though, so we’ll have to see what we’re gonna get next summer! I went through my storage once more half-way through the season to see if I could dig out some more dresses, and I did also find an oldie but goldie from Asos, that made the last bits of summer a bit more bearable for me. I love long days, cold white wine and festivals; but when it comes to dressing summer is just not my fave, haha! My absolut favourite uniform will forever be pants, a tee and a jacket. You can see some of my summer outfits on the Pinterest board below.

My inspiration for the coming season

I love autumn and I have been looking forward to it for a couple weeks now. We’ve already had some pretty chilly days in Denmark and it feels nice being able to wear some of my more heavy clothing again! Autumn is pure “hygge” and I love how much nature changes this time of year, exactly when when spring arrives. I find myself reaching for a pretty classic palette of colours every autumn, and this year is no different. I can’t wait to be reunited with the dark green, beige and brown colours I have in my storage from previous years. Just like I’ve already done quite a few times (last time back in spring) I also intend adding red as an accent colour to keep things a bit more fresh after an entire season of wearing only monochromatic items. Event though this might ring a bell to you, I’m gonna change things a tiny bit here and there so it’s not gonna be exactly the same outcome as last year. I’ve just ordered the most beautiful secondhand leopard coat (same as this one) and I’ve been dreaming about doing so for several years. I love leopard, and even though it seems to be extra on trend this summer it’s a basic print that never dies. At least it will never for me! So I just know this coat is gonna be a winner for me. I’m still obsessing over these rock’n’roll vibes and I think I’ll find my sweet spot in between just that and my basic, minimal style this season.

My wishlist

I’m actually pretty much all set when it comes to my wishlist this season. The before mentioned leopard coat was one wish, and then I’ve also been on the hunt for a pair of brown loafers which I’ve also already purchased. They fit the colour of my brown bag perfectly, and I love the soft contrast the brown leather adds to my looks. Again it’s gonna be nice stepping a bit out of my comfortzone of monochromatic looks, all while sticking to the classics and staying true to my own style. Besides that I’ve been eyeing a grey cotton jumper from Everlane for a while and like I mentioned in my last post, I absolutely love cottonjumpers. Not only is it just so easy to maintain in the long run, it’s also really comfortable wearing during the transition between seasons because it’s a little less hot than wool for example. Lastly I’ve been offered to test out some basics from a couple of my favourite brands this season (Everlane and People Tree) which I’ve said yes to, so you’ll hear all about those in part two of the video below!

Really like your calm palette and clothes items selection (with just a pop of color). I’m looking forward to more posts – especially since I’m just starting to organize my fall capsule wardrobe.

I’m in California, so it’s a lot warmer here in the fall than where you live.
    🙂

Hello – I just wanted to add, that for me the hardest part of going thru my closet is getting rid of those items that I “like” but never wear for some reason. If you have any advice about making those decisions, it would be great.
