An ode to low maintenance hair.

So this past Monday I decided to take some of the day off, to go get my hair done. I’ve had this shoulder length hairstyle for almost 3 years, and even though I sometimes do miss my long hair I really feel liked I’ve found “my” hairstyle. You know what I mean? Anywho, this time around I decided to get my colour refreshed as well, It’s been more than 1,5 years since last time I got my hair dyed professionally, and often I end up just doing it myself. I usually buy a blonde colour at the store, and then I apply a tiny amount at the very tips of my hair and then a few random strands here and there. This gives a very natural sunkissed looking result, and I don’t have to do it very often since the transition between my natural hair colour and the hair dye isn’t noticeable. I usually end up dying my hair maybe 2 times a year which is not only healthier because it’s not that often, it also looks much more natural. Unfortunately I have yet to discover a natural way of bleaching your hair besides using lemons during summer (which only gives a very subtle result) and otherwise I know Lush makes these natural and packagefree henna dye bars, which have gotten great reviews. But these are only suitable for you if you want brown, dark or red hair. Just a couple tips on how to dye your hair naturally with a minimal amount of waste.

I always save some photos on my phone so I’m prepared (it is afterall me we are talking about) and I always save a lot of inspiration on my Pinterest as well. My favourite hairstylist to follow is the Beverly Hills based Anh Co tran, who is the man behind the lived in hair concept. I always check out his Instagram before going to the hairdresser! I usually ask for a long bob and if I’m getting a dye too it’s often a balayage I choose. Balayage is a technic where you “paint” the colour onto the hair strands, and it gives a very natural result. If you are p for a colour that requires as minimal maintenance as possible and that actually gets more and more beautiful the more it grows out of your hair, this is the thing for you, haha!

This time around I got myself a beige blonde balayage, which looks super natural and is very close to my own hair colour. The hairdresser applied a beige toner in my hair afterwards, just to make sure everything blended in more seamlessly and so that the transition between the blonde colour and my natural (rather dark) winter hair wouldn’t be too harsh. The blonde colour will however seem more and more light after a couple hair washes. I keep my hair routine simple: I wash my hair only 2-3 times a week with this packagefree soap from Lush, sometimes followed by this scalp treatment also from Lush and when I get out of the shower I apply a couple drops of my Meraki oil to condition it. Whenever I wash my hair it i at night time, and I let it air dry to save it from the damaging heat from the blowdryer. In the morning I will then curl a few random sections of hair and finish off with a tiny amount of wax for texture and hold, and that’s it! Halleluja for low maintenance hair, that still (if I do say so myself) looks amazing. I get my hair dyed at KIG Coiffure in Kolding (they do amazing balayage), but next time I want to see if I can find an organic hairdresser. I would like to support the concept!

That’s it!

Your hair looks great but that’s much more time/energy than I spend on my hair!

Thanks Lauren. 🙂 The time spend on ones hair might be arbitrary – like with everything else in life, what seems like a lot to some might not seem like a lot to others 😉 But good for you, you must have really great looking hair naturally. xx

Hi! What do you do on days that you don’t wash your hair? Do you comb them and curl them again? You don’t seem to use heat protection?
    Thank you!
