5 ways to reinvent your wardrobe (without shopping!)

Jan 12, 2018 | 4 comments

Some time ago I made the video in the bottom of this post, with 5 tips on how to reinvent your wardrobe without shopping for new clothes. Some of you may out even have watched the video, and I know that some of you are not so keen on watching youtube videos in general – therefore, I thought I wanted to gather up the tips from the video in a post a well, since it is in fact one of my most popular ones. There’s even a newer tip in this post as well! So of you like to express yourself through fashion and style, then you can learn all bout how to maintain everything that makes it so much fun while working in a more sustainable mindset at the same time!

1. Research and gather up inspiration.

I love using both Pinterest and Instagram, and I gather up lots of inspiration for looks I know that I can recreate with things I already have in my wardrobe – or at least something similar. This is mainly how I use these apps, because then I can use them as a reference and a way to look up new outfits when I need inspiration on how to style my wardrobe in new, exciting ways than I normally would myself. You can follow me on Pinterest HERE, where you’ll find lots of style inspiration in general, but of course also inspiration on how to structure your own Pinterest account.

2. Shop your own closet.

When you have a capsule wardrobe (read more HERE), you’ll store away a bunch of items every seasons. When the seasons change you’ll then get an opportunity to shop your own closet. It may sound weird storing away perfectly good items that you actually love using, but if the temperatures don’t fit for you to be able to wear if anyway, why keep it in your everyday wardrobe? give it a break and you may experience the joy of getting it back out once the seasons change. Also it will do your clothes some good, giving it a break because it will elongate its lifetime.

3. It’s all in the details.

I love spicing up my looks with jewelry, accessories and makeup no matter if it’s on a normal everyday or to a special occasion. Looking at a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt that may sound like the world’s most boring outfit but if you add heels, a handfuld og folden jewelry, a great bag and a red lipstick to the look it’s so much more. Little details make a huge difference!

4. Renew what you already own.

There are many ways in which you can renew old clothes – if you want, you can keep an eye on my “fix your wardrobe” series on Youtube right HERE. I’ll gather the clothes i have in my wardrobe somehow and then occasionally spend a few hours fixing it all. Maybe there’s a pair of jeans that need to be taken up or in, a button missin in a jacket, a jumper that needs to have it’s pilling removed with a cashmere comb, a couple of shoes that need to go to the local cobblers or the like. You can read my best tips on how to care for your wardrobe right HERE.

5. Use a ‘daily outfits’ app.

This is my newest addiction; an app that helps you generate daily outfits all on it’s own and that helps you keeping tracks of everything you have in your wardrobe in general. You can get more info on my experience with the app in THIS video, otherwise I’m working on a post that will compare the 3 most popular apps that provide this service, so you can wait around for that one if you’re not keen on the video. The app I use is called Cladwell, and I use it as a tool to put together cool looks from my everyday capsule but also my occasional wear capsule. I’ve put in my entire wardrobe in the app, and in that way it can help my decide what to wear each morning. It’s such a cool way to get most out of your wardrobe and get help on how to style a certain items in new, fresh ways!

Hello! I’ve recently discovered your content and I’m a fan of your great style!
I love all your tips and I also will include one that works really well for me. I usually look for some outfit inspiration in the lookbooks of brands like Mango, Violeta Mango, H&M or J.Crew. I write down the name of the item I want to wear (like trench or basic tee) and I discover a bunch of ideas in how they create the looks with basic pieces that I already own.

    Greetings from Spain!

    Hi Signe,
I love your site and videos! I was feeling very unhappy with my wardrobe for many years and now I am turning 40 I really need to sort it out. Your advice has been so helpful 🙂 One of the problems I have though is that I am pear shaped – my hips are not too wide but my bottom sticks out a bit. I look ok from the front, but a I look a disaster from the side and behind! I have read all sorts of guides, saying to draw attention to your top half with ruffles, statement jewelry, etc, these are too fussy for me. I much prefer clean understated clothes. Do you have any advice? x
