3 reasons why your current wardrobe isn’t working for you

Capsule wardrobe systemet er en perfekt måde, at få funktionalitet og stil til, at gå op i en højere enhed. Ved at få den her struktur på din garderobe ændrer du også dit mindset, og du vil opdage at selvom du måske har mindre tøj i din garderobe, så har du faktisk lige pludselig flere valgmuligheder. Hvorfor? Fordi dit overblik styrkes og din kreativitet til, at sammensætte nye outfits, højnes. 

Men… for nogle mennesker fungerer det bare ikke. Du kommer måske hurtigt til at kede dig, og lysten til at købe nyt trænger sig (igen) på. Eller også er du fascineret af idéen om “lidt men godt”, men kan ligesom ikke rigtigt finde ud af hvad “godt” betyder for dig. Her kommer 3 grunde til, hvorfor din nuværende garderobe ikke fungerer for dig.

By adding this structure to your wardrobe, you are also changing your mindset, and you will discover that even though you may have less clothing in your wardrobe, you are actually left with more choices. Why? Because your overview is strengthened and your creativity to put together new outfits is increased.

But… for some people, it just doesn’t seem to work. You may quickly get bored by your choices, and the urge to buy (more) new clothes creeps in on you. Or you might be fascinated by the idea of having “less but better”, but you can’t really figure out what “better” means to you. Here are 3 reasons why your current wardrobe isn’t working for you.


1. Tøjet passer ikke til din livsstil. Tøj og psykologi hænger unægteligt sammen, og det rigtige tøj kan derfor have en væsentlig, positiv indflydelse på dit liv. Tøj der får dig til at føle dig godt tilpas højner din effektivitet, gør dig gladere og mere selvsikker. Så derfor giver det god mening, at forfølge den person du drømmer om at være – et stykke hen ad vejen ihvertfald. Der er nemlig nødt til, at være en balance mellem det du drømmer om at udstråle og iføre dig, og så den person du er og det liv du faktisk lever. En god tommelfingerregel er, at komme op med nogle simple kompromiser. F.eks. kan det være du ELSKER høje hæle, men du synes både de er ubehagelige at være iført og de passer heller ikke rigtigt ind i ligningen med, at skulle cykle til/fra arbejde, hente børn og handle ind. Her kunne du i stedet prøve et par spidse ballerinaer, som er er et mindst ligeså feminint alternativ, der med sin spidse facon forlænger dine ben (ligesom et par sko med hæl), men de er altså bare lidt mere praktiske og komfortable. Så altså – en balance mellem drømme liv og virkeligt liv er simpelthen så vigtigt. Ellers ender tøjet med, at hænge ubrugt i garderoben.

2. Du er usikker på din stil. De fleste mennesker har én dominerende stilkerne og et par der er mere sekundære i deres garderobe, så i mange tilfælde er udfordringen her ganske enkelt, at få sat noget struktur på din stil-personlighed. At kende sin stilkerne og de komponenter den udgøres af (både dominante og sekundære) er et super brugbart værktøj der kan hjælpe dig med, at forstå (og hvile i) hvad du kan lide – og hvad du ikke kan lide. Min primære stilkerne er f.eks. afslappet, men outfits der er afslappede fra top til tå (fx jeans, sneakers og en trøje) kan somme tider føles lidt kedeligt. Derfor kan jeg nemt krydre mine afslappede outfits med min sekundære stilkerne, som fx er klassisk eller rå. Det er en nem måde, at skabe variation i min garderobe (selv med få items) og ikke mindst en måde, at lade min personlighed skinne mere igennem. 

3. Du har for mange dubletter. Hvadenten du er til capsule wardrobes eller ej, så er det her virkelig også værd at tænke på. Har du en tendens til at købe den ene grå blazer efter den anden, så stop lige op og spørg dig selv hvorfor. Måske handler det om, at du har svært ved at finde dén ene grå blazer der både fungerer i farve, snit og materiale. Hvis det er tilfældet, jamen så prøv at være mere kritisk næste gang du køber nyt. Lad være med at gå (for meget) på kompromis, hvis du ved præcis hvad du leder efter, for så bliver det aldrig yndlingstøj. En anden ting der er værd at tænke over er, at dit tøj gerne skal kunne noget forskelligt. Du kan fx sagtens have flere blazere eller andre lette jakker i din garderobe. Men sørg for, at de kan noget forskelligt – det kan være forskellige farver eller udtryk. På den måde højner du igen den funktionalitet der er så vigtigt i en holdbar garderobe, for det vil give dig mange flere styling muligheder.

1. Your clothes don’t suit your lifestyle. Clothing and psychology are undeniably connected, and the right clothes can therefore have a significant, positive impact on your life. Clothes that make you feel comfortable increase your efficiency, make you happier and more confident. So therefore it makes sense to pursue the person you dream of being through your wears – to some degree at least. There has to be a balance between what you dream of wearing, and then the person you are and the life you actually live. A good rule of thumb is to come up with some simple compromises. For example, you may LOVE high heels, but you find them uncomfortable to wear and they don’t really fit into the equation of having to bike to/from work, pick up children and go grocery shopping. In this case try a pair of pointed flats as a just as feminine alternative. With their pointed shape they lengthen your legs (like a pair of heels would), but they are just a little more practical and comfortable. So, a balance between dream life and real life is so important – otherwise your clothes will remain unworn in your wardrobe.

2. You are unsure of your style. Most people have one dominant style core and a few that are more secondary in their wardrobe, so in many cases the challenge here is simply to work in some structure to your style personality. Knowing exactly which components it consists of (both dominant and secondary) is a super useful tool that can help you better understand what you like – and what you don’t like. It will help you stay focused and leave the noise out. My primary style personality is casual, but outfits that are casual from head to toe (e.g. jeans, sneakers and a sweater) can sometimes feel a little boring. Therefore, I can easily spice up my casual outfits with my secondary style personalities, which for example could be classic or edgy. It’s an easy way to create variety in my wardrobe (even with a few items) and not least a way to let my personality shine through more.

3. You have too many duplicates. Whether you are into capsule wardrobes or not, this is really worth thinking about as well. If you tend to buy one grey blazer after another, stop right there and ask yourself why. Maybe you’ve had a hard time finding that one grey blazer that works in color, cut and material. If that’s the case, well, maybe try to be a little more critical next time you go shopping. Don’t compromise (too much) if you know exactly what you are looking for, because otherwise it will never be end up being a favorite piece. Another thing that is worth thinking about is that your clothes should differentiate in expression. For example, you can easily have several blazers or other light jackets in your wardrobe. But make sure they fulfill different things – it could be different colors or expressions. This way you again raise the aspect of functionality that is so important in a lasting and interchangeable wardrobe, because it will give you many more styling possibilities,
