10 tips on regaining your energy.

Apr 15, 2017 | 3 comments

/ I am suffering from anxiety – in some periods of my life I hardly notice it, and in other periods of my life it can be pretty inhibitory – so I have developed quite the knowledge on how to treat myself, when the struggle gets a little too tough. It’s good for your soul and something we should all do every now and then, also if you don’t suffer from anything like anxiety or stress. It’s so important, that you between the busy days take some time to relax and just breathe, so that you can regain your energy and keep your focus where you want it to be. I have a little collection of self-care rituals and thought I would share some of them with you here.

Her kan bare 30 minutter virkelig gøre underværker.
Her kan jeg varmt anbefale We Bought A Zoo, De Urørlige (min yndlingsfilm) eller at binge-watch’e Friends. Jeg bliver aldrig træt af den serie.

/ English translation

  1. Make yourself a good bath and use a nice bath oil that has a mild an calming scent. If you don’t have a bath tub, you can apply the oil on your skin and then take a nice shower afterwards.
  2. This is kind of linked to number 1, but spend some time caring for your skin on the body and in your face. I like to use some kind of oil with a light scent for my body, and for my face I like to use a facescrub or my dermaroller before applying my face cream. I’ll make a seperat post with my skin care routine.
  3. Make a steam-bath for your face by pouring some hot water in a bowl and applying some fresh slices of lemon. I like to sit with my face over the bowl for about 10 minutes, with a towel over my head. After that I treat the skin in my face with a good face cream.
  4. f you are bored during your face steam session, you could do a mindfulness meditation while you sit there. I like to use the app Buddhify which I have written a post about HERE.
  5. Spend some time doing your favorite hobby. I have a few different creative things I like to do – paint, play the piano or guitar, edit a movie or other things similar to that. Maybe your hobby isn’t anything creative, and that doesn’t matter. Just as long as you give yourself some time to do something that is fun, and that you can kind of connect fully with for a little while, something that locks out your surroundings.
  6. Make yourself a footbath. I have a tendency to totally neglect caring for my feet! A footbath is so relaxing, and is a good opportunity to give your feet a little extra care. You can use some kind of footscrub like I would do and then finish with a good lotion.
  7. I addition to the previous one, I also like to give my hands a bath sometimes. I like using the same scrub as the one for my feet, and then applying some lotion afterwards. It gives me the softest hands!
  8. Go for a long, fresh walk or do a good, hard workout. Evenr 3o minutes can make a huge difference! And the bath will feel so much nicer. Even though it can be the hardest thing to get done when you are feeling low on energy, it makes such a huge impact on your mind to do it anyway. There are several biological things happening whenever you workout. For example the brain secretes endorphins which will make you feel full of energy and more happy, so if you suffer from anxiety of depression this is so good for you!
  9. Light a bunch of candles, pull your duvet in on the couch and watch some kind of feel-good movie. I recommend We Bought A Zoo, The Intouchables (favourite!) or binge-watching Friends. I’ll never get tired of that series.
  10. Make a nice cup of tea or a cup of varm milk with honey. The last one is especially good if you have trouble falling asleep at night. Follow up using the Buddhify app again – I like to practice one of the meditations from the “Going to sleep” category.

    Hello Signe,

I used to live in a small studio with a bathtub, and I loved relaxing in it. Now I live in an appartment a little bigger, but without a bathtub and I miss it.
But now I have a cat, and Jo is a wonderful healer. Every evening when I come back home, she meows until I sit on a stool and she jumps on my lap, purring while I pet her for a few minuts, removing the weight of the working day. Playing with Jo or caressing her while she sleeps on my belly is a very goog way to relief stress and anxiety: she looks so joyfull and peaceful!
    Bye!

    Bouchra
PS: Jo says hello to Oskar
